I just cannot stay away from foundations, can I?
This week we’re talking about Vichy’s Dermablend 3D Correction Foundation. In the product’s description it says that it is recommended for oily and acne-prone skin. Well, my skin is dry to normal and I rarely get break outs, but it is very pale, transparent and full of freckles (which, don’t get me wrong, I do love and respect, and I do not mind showing them off, however sometimes I want to hide them under some make-up). I do occasionally get a spot here and there and I was very curious whether I would be able to cover it with any foundation without making it stand out even more as it usually happens.
So, one day during December I was not working, surprisingly, which automatically meant that I would go to the shops (unfortunately only 5 minutes walk from our house) to buy cotton buds and shower gel and end up with 12 more items that I just couldn’t leave without. The Dermablend was one of those items and since then I have tried it on my skin multiple times.
First I decided to give it a go during my work day. The first impression was brilliant – fits my skin shade perfectly, makes my face look airbrushed and lovely, does not feel heavy and my pores do not seem to be gasping for air. Applied at 7:30 in the morning with my beauty blender, sealed with a little bit of powder, barely lasted until the afternoon – at some point I noticed that it is starting to slide off my nose, which is the part that can get occasionally more oily than the rest of my skin. The foundation is meant for oily skin, so why would it not stay on my ONLY patch of oily skin?! Disappointed. After this first experience I was a little sad as I did have higher expectations about this product, mainly because I have absolutely loved everything from Vichy so far.
Couple of weeks passed, I decided to give it another go – perhaps I hadn’t applied it properly. This time I was going out in the evening, to watch Rogue One (totally irrelevant fact…). I applied setting spray after sealing the foundation with powder and it did seem to make a difference – around 6 hours later everything was still in place, a little bit shiny around the nose.
January came, my usual frustration about foundations was at its greatest, so I decided to be persistent and try again. This time I was applying primer AND setting spray. Oh well, it made all the difference. The foundation applied beautifully and stayed as long as I needed it to! At that time I did have two spots on my skin as well and I did cover them quite well (spot the spots on the photos! – No, the thing next to my nose, under the eye is not a spot but just a scar). The photos you are seeing are taken with Canon EOS 750D, ef 50mm f/1.8, the colours (brightness, contrast, warmth…) have been edited but no retouch and adjustments have been made to the skin.
You can still see some of my freckles, but the coverage is quite good – I have applied only one layer, but if you decide to, you can totally build it up to hide everything fully. You can find the foundation here – I have it in shade 15 Opal. It is more on the high-end side regarding the price, however not reaching most of the brands around the £30 mark and still performing rather well.
For the curious ones, there is a full list of what I am wearing on those photos:
Primer – Avon Magix Compact Smoothing Primer
Powder – Rimmel Match Perfection Loose Powder in 1 Translucent
Contour and Highlight – Sleek MakeUp Face Contour Kit in Light
Bronzer – Avon Glow Bronzing Pearls in Warm
Eyeshadow – Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette
Eyeliner – NEXT Make Me Beautiful Black Liquid Eyeliner
Mascara – SEVENTEEN Falsifeye HD Mascara in Blackest Black
Lashes – Eylure Pre-glued Ready to Wear False Eyelashes 070 (From which I removed the pre-glued strip as it was too heavy and just used normal glue – very easy and quick to apply when you can’t be bothered to apply 2-3 layers of mascara and wait for each one to dry)
Eyebrows – Bourjois Sourcil Precision Eyebrow Pencil in 07 Noisette
Setting Spray – Avon Magix Prime and Set Spray
That’s it for today, let me know if you decide to try the foundation out and how it works for you! 🙂
